OUR  NEWSLETTER

The last 3 months…

…has continued to be a period of transition for Arun Community Transport. The level of requests to register, or use the service, has increased dramatically in the last few months. Some of this can be attributed to the changes in the Hospital Transport service which has been handed over to EMED.

To put you in the picture...

As a community transport service, Arun Community Transport currently has more than 1,000 users in the service. With over 150 weekly trips made by its members. Arun Community Transport provide a vital lifeline to many of the elderly, vulnerable, disabled people, rural residents and deprived households in the community.

The need to plan and organise these trips is a major task and essential to maintaining a smooth-running service. Many of the trips are for medical appointments and are subject to changes at short notice. Currently we are experiencing a level of 17% of cancelled and re-arranged appointments. Progress by way of discussions with the local NHS Trust has helped to reduce this and will be ongoing in the future.

As new systems are being developed...

We have recruited new volunteer drivers and office staff, we are always looking for more and although others have retired the overall number of volunteers has increased. This will open up more capacity to operate our services. Our volunteer drivers provide an outstanding service to our local communities. We are looking to make improvements in communication between our office and driver volunteers. This will avoid the need for last minute re-scheduling.
